Film and Video Artist

Welcome

Luis Sánchez Ramírez was born in Mexico City in 1976 and moved to the US in 1996. As an artist he is interested in exploring the boundaries between photography, film and video. He examines how these different mediums interact and cross each other’s margins. Like a mirror in front of a mirror, like a dream inside a dream, developing what presumes to be an attempt to an orderly chaos and a reaction to comtemporary mass media "package goods". At times the work juxtaposes the notions of individual memory and communal history to create a shared experience with the viewer. The images in his work yearn for a secret intimacy. They whisper quietly. Things that can’t be named at times, something intuitive. Rusted simbols, text and mathematical equations, questioning old ghost of class and racial denotations.

His work reflects his interest for issues such as: immigration policy and colonization, racism, xenophobia as well as popular culture and the creation of myth.
